Thought for Today

Happy New Year

Today marks the beginning of a new year and the completion of my goal to post every day in 2014. Thank you for reading, commenting, asking the owl, subscribing, and liking InspirationOwl on Facebook. Writing is a lot more fun when you know there are people actually reading and (hopefully) enjoying your blog. Wishing you all a wonderful year!

New Year’s Eve

This year, we’ll be doing our annual cheese fondue and then having friends over for drinks and dessert. We’ll also be making memory jars and lighting sparklers at midnight. Whether you’re going to a fancy party or spending a quiet evening at home, I wish you an enjoyable New Year’s Eve and a very Happy New Year. See you tomorrow or perhaps I should say see you next year!

Memory Jars

If resolutions aren’t your thing, a memory jar might be a great alternative. The idea is to decorate a jar that you can fill with memories and achievements over the next year. At the end of the year, you can empty the jar and celebrate all the good things that happened. How does one go about doing this you ask? An important part of that process is taking time to look back at 2014: “A good question to ask as another year begins to winds down: ‘What have I learned the hard way, and what has it taught me to do differently?’ The answers will help you remember just how far you’ve come and what direction you need to head.” – Paul Boynton {Read More}

Happy Boxing Day

I hope you’re enjoying the holidays and that you have a nice Boxing Day. If you’re going shopping, best of luck! I tend to steer clear of stores on the 26th because I don’t like crowds. Also, Boxing Day has somehow turned into Boxing Week. (When did that happen?) However, I might check out some of the sales online. If cats could shop (or rather, if they didn’t have humans to shop for them), I’m pretty sure they would do {Read More}

Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a wonderful day with family and friends. See you tomorrow!

Ask the Owl

Dear InspirationOwl, I enjoy getting together with family for the holidays, but there is one thing I dread and I know it will happen again this year. My 22-year-old stepdaughter and 60-year-old sister-in-law will sit through the entire meal with their faces in their smartphones. I know this is typical behaviour for many teens, although I would hope I have taught my own child better manners. Last Christmas, I dropped a not-so-subtle hint by giving them both mittens with flip-back {Read More}
